About OSLC’s Wellness Ministry

The Creation Story recorded in the 1st chapter of Genesis includes these Biblical
truths, “God created man in his own image…male and female he created them. God
blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number, fill the earth and
care for it’…God saw all that he had made and it was very good.” The Apostle Paul
addresses the Christian church in Corinth and each of us today in 1st Corinthians 6 by
stating, “Do you not know that your body is the temple(dwelling place) of the Holy
Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?”

A basic understanding of Christian stewardship is that we are to live in this
world as caretakers, stewards of all our Lord has blessed us with. To be God-honoring
men and women of faith then means that we steward body, mind and spirit which implies
personal and community soul care, emotional care and physical care. Encouraging
and teaching God’s people to be faithful stewards of His creation, in particular our
own body where His Spirit dwells, is the intention of a newly forming Wellness Ministry
here at OSLC.

This ministry is to be Christ-Centered and is not limited to only OSLC members.
We hope to provide Sunday morning teaching/ministry services, as well as mid-week
opportunities for your convenience. A few ideas shared thus far include a Wellness Fair
to be scheduled early in the New Year, a monthly wellness tip included in our Shepherd’s
Staff, and to teach on topics such as healthy relationships, stress and anxiety in
today’s world, time management, budgeting/finances for Christians in the 21st Century,
grief support, care giving, dealing with depression, immunizations, forgiveness, experiencing joy in daily life and particularly joy in the Lord, exercise/balance/stretching,
healthy eating choices, dealing with anger/frustration, etc.

We are excited about what God has in store for us and any others involved in
this ministry. Watch, listen and read as more information becomes available!
