Wellness Tip for March 2016

Sitting: The New Cancer

Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, identified sitting as the ―new cancer. Whether this is a marketing ploy or not, the statement has merit. New studies on the ill-effects of prolonged sitting surface weekly establishing that prolonged sitting can damage overall health. Not only can it add to stress, induce binge-eating promoting obesity, it can damage our metabolism, making one susceptible to cancer, cardiovascular diseases, bone troubles and much more.

It takes little effort to increase your activity during the day: walk to the mailbox, park the car farther from your destination, get up to talk to a co-worker versus sending an email, make multiple trips up and down your stairs instead of one major trip, take a walk instead of reading for hours, etc. Get up every hour and move at home and at work. Doing these little things can greatly enhance your overall being. So avoid the ―new cancer‖ and get moving.

Galatians 6:4

Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else, for each one should carry his own load.
